Deadly Flood in Henan
The 2021 Henan Floods were the result of heavy rainfall in China's Henan Province from 17 July - 31 July 2021. As of 2 August 2021, Henan provincial authorities reported 302 deaths, while over 50 were missing. An official investigation from the State Council revealed officials in the province had deliberately underreported at least 139 deaths in all from the disaster, revising the death toll to 398.
The floods caused the evacuation of 815,000 people, and overall affected 14.5 million people around the province. The intensity of the floods was believed to have been exacerbated by extreme weather caused by climate change in China.
